    What can you do today?

You can help reintroduce rescued orangutans back to the jungle!

Right now, orangutans are under dangerous threat.

Every minute, their beautiful homes in the Indonesian Rainforests get destroyed by palm oil plantations, mining companies and illegal logging. On top of these threats, our furry brothers and sisters also face getting captured and traded illegally as pets! When they are kept as pets, it's almost always in horrendous conditions. Baby orangutans are ripped from their mothers and confined to a life of abuse and solitude, that soon results in death.

We only have approximately 6,000 Sumatran Orangutans left in the entire world! 20 years ago there was 70,000!
But we're not here to depress you! There is HOPE!

The Sumatran Orangutan Reintroduction Centre in Bukit Tigapuluh (BTP) is one of only two Sumatran orangutan reintroduction sites in the world for these critically endangered species!

Since 2002, over 165 Sumatran orangutans have been transferred to and released into the BTP ecosystem.

The rescued orangutans are carefully monitored and rehabilitated. They must undergo extensive training, including forest school, so they can learn how to survive in their new jungle home before they are released.

Skills needed to survive in the jungle include being able to source enough food and build a secure nest in the canopy.

Extensive monitoring of orangutans occurs during and after the release process.

The release area is monitored by Wildlife Protection Units and many local people are employed by this programme.

Providing enrichment to the orangutans in the pre-release cages is also a vital part of their rehabilitation. Providing natural forest foods as well as food puzzles, increases the foraging activity of the orangutans and keeps them mentally and physically active.

We want to provide our orangutans with worming treatments, fresh fruits and vegetables, food puzzles and ropes to play with!
